Early morn, heading to the village shop, The hare sat in the middle of the road, bonny as you like. Normally they flee but this one stayed motionless.
She let me approach, so close I could see the hazel of her eyes. We stared at each other for an age. But a noise in the field broke our gaze. When I looked back, to my surprise, there stood two, this one taller and wiser, the old and the new.
As I hover in the hinterland of a menopause haze, accept the profound in that precious exchange. The golden summer of my youth behind me now, and aye, perhaps I still resist the Crone, but cross the bridge betwixt the two I must.
